3 Clamps down on A920

Last week we mentioned that Motorola's new A920 was going to be launched by 3... It just came out now that the phone is going to be locked to specific applications approved by 3. This really takes the "smart" out of smartphone as it means that the hundreds of 3rd-party applications available for the Symbian OS will be off limits. The move was made to prevent hackers from making trojan horse apps that use some of the phone's more advanced features (GPS, hi-speed data, video) in malicious ways. Our take is that it should be up to the end-user what gets installed.
