NTT DoCoMo to make mobile antivirus engine

Japanese mega-carrier NTT DoCoMo has announced that it is partnering up with Network Associates to develop an antivirus engine for mobile phones. Network Associates is the company behind McAfee, which is a popular antivirus solution for PC's. The target date to get real software isn't until the end of 2004, but the most interesting part is that the companies are thinking about putting the software up for international standards, something that would make it more than just a NTT DoCoMo product. Since phones are getting more advanced, and are starting to use the same operating systems (Symbian, Microsoft's Smartphone OS just to name two), the threat of viri spreading through mobile networks is becoming a reality.
