BlackBerry 7270, WiFi/VoIP savvy

Research In Motion is busy showing off its new BlackBerry 7270 at the Gartner ITXPO Symposium. The 7270 is the first BlackBerry with 802.11b WiFi. The 7270 can harness wireless networks to make Voice over IP phone calls. bq. The BlackBerry 7270 supports VoIP telephony that essentially extends desktop phone functionality to a BlackBerry wireless handheld allowing the user to place and receive calls on the go. It utilizes SIP-based call control to deliver standards-based interoperability with IP PBX and traditional corporate telephony equipment. It was not announced when the BlackBerry 7270 will be for sale, it is currently still in the functional prototype stage.
