Cingular Q1 2005: adds customers, loses money

Cingular Wireless today announced its Q1 2005 earnings, results of which were mixed. Highlights:
- $240 million loss, down from a $215 million profit the same quarter a year ago.
- Net subscribers up 1.4 million to 50.4 million in total
- Monthly churn of 2.2%
- 84% of minutes on GSM network
- Quarterly revenue of $8.2 billion, 5.3% increase of Q1 2004.
- Average revenue per user (ARPU) down to $49.59 from $51.26 in the year-ago first quarter.
- Cingular delivered 4.4 billion text messages during the quarter.
