Verizon and Sprint launch MMS interoperability

Verizon Wireless and Sprint began sharing MMS message on Saturday. MMS adoption has been hurt by the lack of interoperability (meaning that users across carriers could not trade messages, unlike with SMS). Earlier this month T-Mobile USA, Sprint and Cingular all announced joint-interoperability. According to Verizon Wireless, nation-wide compatibility will likely happen this summer. MMS is a standard that allows mobile phone users to send short messages with text and media content to other mobile users or to any regular email address.
