Sprint Q2 2005 results

Sprint yesterday announced its second quarter earnings results. This is the last quarter before the expected merger with Nextel. Like past quarters with Sprint, the wireless business lead most of the growth.

Facts and figures (all figures for the wireless unit only):

• 400,000 direct and nearly 600,000 total net add subscribers
• Average Revenue Per User of $62
• $4.04 billion in revenue
• $625 million operating income, up 49.5% versus a year ago

Sprint has faced a fair amount of challenges with the Nextel merger, mostly in the form of other companies suing to stop it. Federal approval is expected to come soon.
