Trend Micro announced today a new security package, called Mobile Security 2.0. Mobile Security 2.0 is a software package that helps to protect against viruses and other malicious software targeting Windows Mobile and Symbian handsets.

According to NewsFactor, "Company officials said the new version of Mobile Security will give users an advantage against what industry analysts expect will become the next big wave of attacks from virus writers". Further they added that, "in addition to helping smartphone users, will help mobile operators and enterprises protect their systems from malicious mobile code'.

The software is targeted at specific segments of the mobile community, operators and enterprise administrators, and consumers. Consumers can install the client on their handhelds just as they do with PC based antivirus and antispam protection software. Users can block spam SMS messages by using an approved-sender list and a blocked-sender list

"For administrators, Mobile Security features a Web-based console designed for centralized management and provisioning. Using the console, administrators can access all client devices and manage, update, and automate compliance to protect against multiple types of threats".

As with all antivirus software end users can get updates to keep their software recognizing the latest threats.
