According to Reuters, MapQuest Navigator is a new location based service for select US mobile phones that promises point-to-point navigation with voice direction and mapping. MapQuest is a unit of AOL and operates one of the leading internet based mapping sites.

While a shipping product is not yet available, MapQuest is in talks with both Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel about distribution. Both companies already have navigation applications available, but not from a brand name.

"A big part of our future is mobile ... We have users of mapquest.com that already trust us. This is just a better way for us to guide our users to their destinations," said Alan Beiagi, MapQuest's general manager of wireless.
