Symbian announced that 11.7 million mobile phones shipped with its OS during the first quarter. That's a 73% increase in year-over-year comparison. Some other interesting figures were announced:

  • 70.5m total Symbian powered devices
  • 10 licensees are currently shipping 66 different models
  • There are 4,735 third-party applications available

In terms of sales volume, the bulk of Symbian's licenses are on Nokia handsets. However both Mitsubishi and Fujitsu launched Symbian smartphones on the NTT DoCoMo FOMA 3G network (a large potential market) during the quarter.
