casio G'zOne Type-VVerizon Wireless has launched the UTStarcom G'zOne Type-V. The UTStarcom brand doesn't appear anywhere on the handset, but it's the very same phone we first spotted in March with a Casio branding. Casio's idea was to bring the design of its G-Shock watches to a mobile phone. The G'zOne Type-V is designed to take a beating, it's even fully submersible in water.

Despite the tough exterior, the G'zOne Type-V actually sports fairly high-end features:

  • Water, shock and dust resistant (MIL-Standard 810F certified)
  • EV-DO high-speed data
  • 2-megapixel camera
  • QVGA display with 65k colors
  • Speakerphone
  • Size: 4.08" × 2.04" × 1.17" @ 5.30 oz

Verizon Wireless is selling the G'zOne Type-V for $299.99 after a 2-year service contract. It's available now.

Wow that is one ugly phone. Good thing it is durable, the design makes me want to chuck it. But I guess this is good for people who work outside and don't want to use one of the similarly built Nextel phones.

It's big, bulky and not for the faint of heart! It has a big screen, takes great pics and you can hook it onto anything with a carabiner.

If you know what a carabiner is, this may be the phone for you, if not, I'd probably stick with something that will match your outfit.

No coddling necessary! My only complaint is needing to go to a seperate screen to get different punctuation when texting and the lack of certain games I'm used to.
