Nextel announces alternative spectrum solution

Jun 08 - 12:56 AM ET | Nextel

In an attempt to smooth over relations, Nextel has announced a new plan for a spectrum switch. The switch is an attempt to solve an interferance problem between Nextel's network and emergency radio communications.

The latest plan withdraws an offer for 4 MHz of airwaves in the 900 MHz radio band. But the 900 MHz band would have been less useful to public safety workers than the 4.5 MHz of 800 MHz airwaves Nextel is now offering, O'Regan said.

The last time we mentioned this story, it was that Powell was thought to be leaning towards voting against the swap.
