Motorola predicts top spot

Jul 30 2004 - 02:40 AM ET | Motorola, Nokia, Samsung
A Motorola executive is quoted in a Finnish business paper as saying that Motorola will once again be the world's largest mobile phone maker. Nokia has held the top position (which it took from Motorola) since 1998. Nokia's market share sits at 28.9% while Motorola is back at 15.4%. No time frame was given. In a conflicting report today, it looks like Samsung might take the #2 spot from Nokia. Samsung's market share is 14.5%, but grew twice as fast as Motorola's last quarter.
