Picture messaging slowly catching on

Forbes is running an article about the slow adoption rate of picture messaging (MMS typically) even though the sales of camera phones have gone through the roof. Pictures messages were one way carriers planned on increasing revenue per customer, a key metric to the vitality of carriers. bq. Researchers there predicted in September 2003 that photo messaging would contribute at least 67 cents to carriers' average revenue per unit this year. But last April, they slashed that figure to 33 cents. One of the major problems with picture messaging is that it doesn't work nearly as seamlessly as SMS--if you send a picture from one carrier to another, be sure to send along a prayer.
