China's 3G troubles mount

The Wall Street Journal has a piece [Subscription req.] in Monday's issue about problems China faces in its 3G rollout. Problems include cost, standards, and poor phones. bq. The Chinese government also could mandate that phone companies share space on new networks to save money, or use the same network to run more than one type of 3G technology, including the homegrown standard, these people say. Only a few 3G phones are available, and phones that run China's homegrown standard are even more rare.
