Sprint EV-DO plans announced

Sprint PCS today announced technical plans for its EV-DO network (high-speed data). The company has completed hashing out a deal worth $3 billion to create the network. Major beneficiaries of the network contracts are Lucent, Motorola and Nortel. The contracts also include future 1xEV technology upgrade options. It was not announced what markets will come online first, but many metro areas should see service in 2005. The upgrade should be pretty simple: bq. Site upgrades merely involve incorporating a new channel card and additional RF carrier, without the need to replace the existing infrastructure.
