Nextel Q4 profits

Nextel reported fourth quarter 2005 earnings today:

• Net earnings fell 26% to $471 million
• Revenue of $3.6 billion, up 19% over the year ago period
• About 1 million new customers (595,000 direct Nextel, 360,000 Boost Mobile), for a total of 15 million Nextel subscribers and 1.2 million Boost customers.
• Average revenue per user was $68 (vs. $70 in the year ago period)

Nextel is currently in the process of a merger with Sprint.
