RIM stock drops after Symbian deal

Mar 22 2005 - 11:16 PM ET | Research In Motion
Shares of Research In Motion [RIMM] took a dive of nearly 6% Tuesday after Symbian announced a deal to license ActiveSync from Microsoft. With the ActiveSync deal, Symbian will try to lure BlackBerry users by having devices with nearly the same email functionality but with more smartphone features. RIM shares saw a nice boost late last week after the announcement of a settlement with NTP over ongoing patent disputes. Those gains have now disappeared.
