Verizon Wireless makes ringback tones national

Jun 17 2005 - 12:17 PM ET | Verizon Wireless
Months after first launching ringback tones, Verizon Wireless today has expanded the program nationally. Verizon Wireless was the first major carrier to introduce ringback tones, but T-Mobile USA started to provide the service nationally back in December 2004. Ringback tones are the sound you hear when calling someone, which is conventionally the same sound. Using the ringback tone service customers can replace the normal tone with a short clip of real music. There are 2,400 different songs to choose from and they each cost $1.99. There is a monthly fee of $.99 to be in the ringback tone program. Customers can browse and order online.
