Universal Music Group to market its own phone

Universal Music Group will enter the MVNO race by partnering with SingleTouch Interactive. The MoveU Mobile phone will come packaged with pre-paid service from SingleTouch powered by the Sprint Nextel network. Interestingly, UMG will customize the phone for individual artists. This is not entirely a new concept as Hilary Duff (a UMG artist) is selling a customized LG C1300 and has had about 7,000 units sell so far. MoveU should hit stores, including Wal-Mart, later this year for $99. This is the second major mobile play by UMG in recent weeks, the company previously announced an investment in Amp'd Mobile.
