Samsung adds new gigabyte high-speed MMC cards

Samsung today announced some new high-capacity speedy MMC cards that should hit the market next month. Besides coming in sizes of up to 2GB, the cards are able to transfer at an impressive 52Mbytes/sec which is a 20x improvement.

  • 1GB MMCmobile - dual-voltage support (1.8 or 3.3V) and at half the size of a regular MMC. Targeted for mobile phones.
  • 1 and 2GB MMCplus - 3.3V and aimed at digital cameras

Other formats and their maximum storage:

  • miniSD - 1GB
  • Memory Stick Duo Pro - 2GB
  • microSD (formally TransFlash) - 512MB
  • MMCmicro - 1GB

Anyone know if that MMCmobile card will work in the Nokia 6680? They really make these mobile flash standards tough to follow (I think there is either a new name for an existing standard, or a new standard, every week).

From what I can tell, the MMCmobile will work--it looks to be a better name for RS-DV-MMC. Should work in the 6680/6682.
