Cingular to offer iTunes phone, WSJ

Aug 30 2005 - 02:26 AM ET | Cingular, Motorola

Cingular will carry the upcoming iTunes phone from Motorola according to a report [sub req] in the Wall Street Journal this morning. The reliable paper noted that Apple has, "Reached an agreement with Cingular Wireless to offer a Motorola Inc. cellphone that will play songs from Apple's iTunes Music Store." It's not known if this phone will be apart of the ROKR family.

The report cites an Apple media event on September 7th as a likely launch venue, but iPod enthusiast sites have noted this could be also be the launching pad for a video enabled iPod. The invitation reads:

"1,000 songs in your pocket changed everything. Here we go again."

Cingular is expected to have the phone out for the holiday season. MobileTracker will continue to follow this story closely.

I'll believe it when I see it, this has been the same story for nearly every event for the last year.

I think this has merit because it has to be in September according to what they were saying (before the end of the quarter). And WSJ is rock on solid.

But hopefully the rumors about it being software capped at 25 songs are bunk. That would be insane.
