LG CL400 announced, WiFi enabled

Sep 21 2005 - 01:53 PM ET | Cingular, LG Mobile Phone

lg-cl400.jpgLG announced the CL400 today and despite an introduction in South Korea the phone will likely make it to the US--Cingular's logo is visible on the exterior display. The CL400 is packed with features, the most interesting of which is WiFi and UMA technolgy that is able to switch calls from the cellular network to a WiFi network (or vice versa).

Other features of the LG CL400 include:

  • GSM 850/1800/1900 (another indication that this will ship on Cingular)
  • Camera
  • Music player with external music control keys

There's no word on when the CL400 will begin shipping. We'll keep our eyes open.

Wow this phone is loaded. Come to Cingular please... Without the WiFi being disabled. Would be awesome to make free calls when I am in the office or at home.

I totally agree with Matt. Bring this sucker to market! I have been waiting for a phone with WiFi. Though I wonder what it would do to battery life... Heck, I'd be getting such cheap calls who cares.

If this phone actually does make it to market, it will be great for people that live in shotty coverage areas. A lot of people I know have trouble getting decent coverage inside their home or apartment. As long as you have WiFi, this wouldn't be a problem for the CL400. Very cool.

I hope to see more UMA phones like this over the next year.

Fantastic phone - great looking, with world-class features. Really good to see LG leading the field in VoWLAN - can't wait to buy one when Cingular starts shipping!
