RIM quarterly results strong

Research In Motion released its second quarter results for fiscal 2006 yesterday. The numbers look good as BlackBerry continues to make market share gains.

  • Revenue hit $490.1 million, up 8% from $453.9 million in the previous quarter and up 58% from $310.2 million in the same quarter of last year. The revenue broke down to 70% for handhelds, 18% for service, 8% for software and 4% for other revenue.
  • Total BlackBerry subscribers hit 3.65 million and RIM expects to hit 5 million over the next two quarters
  • GAAP income was $111.1 million for the quarter

RIM is expected to debut the 8000 series of BlackBerry soon.
