Symbian shipments hit 8.54m in Q3

Sales of Symbian were up big in the third quarter, hitting 8.54 million. Other interesting metrics from the quarter:

  • Symbian OS worldwide installed base reaches almost 48 million phones
  • 60 separate Symbian OS phone models shipping worldwide from eight licensees at 30 September 2005
  • 4, 409 third party applications now available for Symbian OS

Earlier this month Nokia announced that it was changing the name of Series 60 (which are its Symbian powered phones) to S60. Nokia remains the largest supplier of Symbian OS powered phones.
