CES 2006 preview

Dec 30 2005 - 02:55 PM ET | CES, Site News

Consumer Electronics Show begins next week in Las Vegas, Nevada and it's quickly shaping up to look like a great show for mobile phones. Press events for the show start Tuesday, January 3rd and news should continue at a fast pace through the week. If you want a jump on the goods, here's some of what's expected to debut at the show:

  • Treo 700w - With all the spyshots leaking from forums lately, this is nearly a lock. Exclusive to Verizon Wireless at launch.
  • HSDPA handsets from Cingular and demos of their media streaming service
  • Verizon Wireless V Cast music downloads - another sure bet, but pricing still remains unknown.
  • Motorola Q shipping - Ed Zander was heard saying the Q would be out in December, but the party line was Q1. That makes CES the likely show as it's a US oriented handset and CTIA isn't until April. A CES launch would also mar Palm's Treo 700w plans.

We wouldn't be surprised by more minor handset introductions from any of the major vendors (Nokia, Samsung, et al). There will also be a slew of new services/products from smaller companies that we'll plug on the Backpage. All major CES news will splash on our front page (and RSS feed), but we've created a special CES section that will launch next week to put it all on one page. We'll try our best to publish lots of pictures and videos, so stay tuned.
