HP to split handhelds from laptop division

HP will split its handheld devices from the laptop division. This will make its iPAQ smartphones a more core business for the company. Smartphones are a high-growth sector for the company and is forecasted to post 50% growth year over year. The new division will also include PDAs without phone capabilities.

Former Sun Microsystems exec Dave Rothschild will lead the handheld division.
