Alltel has partnered with Melodeo to become the first US wireless carrier to provide a podcast service. Alltel subscribers will now be able to follow thousands of podcasts on their handset without the need of a computer. Axcess Mobilcast is a $3.99 monthly subscription and offers up content from well known brands (NPR and CNN for example) as well as independent shows.
Axcess Mobilcast is currently available on several popular Alltel phones. A simple interface allows listeners to browse categories or search programs with no wait time. Podcasts are streamed or downloaded and can be added to the “My Favorites” channel with one click.
Nokia has a podcast application available for download onto its music-centric N91 handset. There is no monthly subscription fee, but data charges do apply (unless you use the phone's built-in WiFi).
