Sprint Movies, feature films streamed to handsets

Sprint Nextel has launched a new service for "pay-per-view" movies. It streams full length hollywood movies to customers with EV-DO equipped handsets. Interestingly the interfrace tries to duplicate the DVD experience and allows viewers to skip chapters in addition to typical playback controls.

Pricing ranges from $3.99 to $5.99 and the movies are viewable any number of times between a set period. That period can range from 24 hours to 1 week depending on the title. 24-hour titles have the ability to add another day for just $.99.

Sprint has streamed movies before, but not mainstream titles. The new service is still powered by mSpot, but titles now include big name hits like Spider-Man 2, Scarface, Meet the Parents and National Treasure. The current catalog is expected to expand. All titles from Sprint Movies are edited, when necessary, to meet TV-14 standards.
