Sprint Nextel files VoIP patent infringement suit

Oct 04 2005 - 04:18 PM ET | Sprint Nextel

Sprint Nextel has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against several Voice over IP companies, including leader Vonage. Sprint Nextel asserts these companies have willfully infringed seven patents relating to voice over packet technology developed by Sprint Nextel. Little is known about the details of the allegations, but the VoIP companies have denied infringement explicitly.

The suit comes as Vonage is preparing for an IPO (at least according to many telecom insiders).
