jamster-logo-new.gifCTIA IT 2006 -- The biggest mobile content news out of the show so far is that News Corp has acquired a controlling in Jamba. The controversial company goes by the name Jamster in the US and is most well known for its Crazy Frog ring tone. Jamba was previously a wholly-owned subsidiary of VeriSign. Jamba has been sued by consumers for alleged unfair advertising practices, such as advertising a "free ringtone" and then signing up the customer for a monthly fee based subscription.

News Corp paid $188 million for the controlling interest and will merge the company with its existing Fox Mobile Entertainment businesses. The Jamster and Jamba brands will be kept. The most immediate changes will be Jamba content being sold on MySpace and the ability to use content from The Simpsons.
