Bluetooth has now topped 1 billion device shipments according to a release from the Bluetooth SIG. Weekly shipments are pacing at 12 million with cellular handsets topping the charts in terms of volume. Other popular Bluetooth enabled devices include stereo headsets, computers and mice/keyboards.
High-speed Bluetooth utilizing ultra-wideband (UWB) technology is expected to be commercially available next year. A new tier of devices that have thus far shied away from Bluetooth because of bandwidth concerns may pop up at that time.
