Carl Ziess has announced a new lens for camera phones that packs higher quality in a smaller space. At about the size of a pea, the new lens sports three-elements and extremely aspheric surfaces. Carl Ziess partnered with Dialog Semiconductor for the electronics. The most interesting tidbit is stuck midway through the release: bq. "The battle for the next generation of camera phones will be decided by the combination of CMOS image sensors with innovative optics," explains Roland Pudelko, CEO and president of Dialog Semiconductor. Pudelko considers 10 megapixels in the camera phone to be well within reach. No estimated time to market for the new lens/module was announced.
