Cingular / AT&T consumer FAQ

Oct 27 2004 - 01:13 PM ET | AT&T Wireless, Cingular
We've heard from lots of AT&T Wireless customers that want to know what will happen to their phone/plan/service in the coming weeks. In case you missed it, Cingular's buyout of AT&T Wireless got approval from the FCC yesterday and the first phase of the merger has already occured. Q: Am I going to need a new phone? A: Nope. Soon you'll see the carrier ID change from AT&T Wireless to Cingular (usually on the top of phone display). You'll only need a new phone if you change from TDMA to GSM, which of course would be the same without the merger. Q: Am I going to have to sign another contract? A: Nope. Customers will continue on their existing contracts with the terms and conditions intact. If you want a new plan, you'll have to select one from Cingular and sign a Cingular contract. Q: I saw a commercial for AT&T Wireless today, what's going on? A: You'll see the AT&T Wireless name floating around for quite some time (legally for up to 6 months). We expect that ads bearing the AT&T Wireless name will cease after November 15th. If you have any questions, write news@mobiletracker.net.
