Low prices seem to be the complaint de facto of mobile phone manufacturers--Sony Ericcson said Q2 sales were up but profits were down. Earlier today Samsung announced that increased price pressure put a crimp on second quarter profits.

Sony Ericsson's second quarter numbers:

  • 11.8 million units shipped (14% increase)
  • 1.61 EUR billion revenue (16% decrease)
  • 75 EUR million profit

Sony Ericsson has faced increase competition over the past year and as a result saw a drop in market share. Several new handsets should begin shipping during the next quarter.

Sony Ericsson has upgraded its global market outlook for 2005 to over 720 million units
