BlackBerry 8700 rumors

Sep 12 2005 - 11:56 PM ET | Research In Motion

Rumors are circulating that Research In Motion is preparing a next-generation BlackBerry called the 8700. Nothing is confirmed, but the claimed specs include EV-DO for the CDMA version, making it the first 3G BlackBerry.

Other features include:

  • Built-In IM
  • 64 MB RAM
  • Improved attachment viewing
  • Slightly modified design, but still the classic form factor

If true, expect the BlackBerry 8700 to ship starting in October or November.

EV-DO on a BlackBerry would be hot stuff, but the form factor is still a bit bulky. Hopefully they learned that thin is in--that Motorola Q looks pretty nice.

But BlackBerry's do have pretty big screens, browsing the web with EVDO may be fun on that.

I like it. I like it a lot. I agree with John though, they need to make 'em more pocket sized.

But EV-DO? Now that would be sweet for downloading attachments.
