Verizon Wireless reaches settlement in V710 case

Sep 27 2005 - 03:31 PM ET | Motorola, Verizon Wireless

Verizon Wireless has announced a settlement in the class action lawsuit brought by people who purchased the Motorola V710 under the impression that its Bluetooth profile allowed a full range of features (it instead just supported a wireless headset). If you got a V710 through Verizon on or before January 31, 2005 you're entitled to $25 service credit or waived service cancellation fees.

The full settlement agreement is available as a 28 page PDF.

i bought my 710 in april of this year (2005) am i excluded in the settlement, i was told by verizon salespeople the 710 with the new software which i have would transfer the phone book from the 710 to the car system and of course it doesnt, also the only time your aware of the fact the 710 doesnt support obex is after you buy the phone and read the book. any suggestions

Actually, the settlement wont be agreed upon until Janury 2006. I bought mine in November of 2004 and got a letter giving me 3 options. To get a refund for the phone, to cancel my service with verizon without penalty or to get service discounts. I would say f-u vrizon and go to someone else, but fortunately for me NONE of the other carriers get service in my apartment in San Diego.
If they are wondering why Verizon keeps growing faster than them they should realize that even though Im so unhappy with Verizon I still have to stay with them because no one else works. In the end you get the phone to be able to make phone calls.

Ive had my v710 since August 2004. I bought it right when it came out. Now my battery is going, and i really dont want to purchase another battery b/c of this settlement, and getting credit back from the phone. I really want to get another phone....but will i be able to get the credit back in Janurary 2006 if i get this other phone?? What do you think?? The phone that I want to get is a PDA Phone and they cost around 300 - 400 $$ and I paid 320 for my v710...if i get this phone now, will they credit me for the difference later?

Nobody!!!!!! has been able to tell me for sure if I get the 2 year, $100 credit for my new phone if I keep Verizon without taking another 1-2 year committment. I talked to the local Verizon office and the 1-800 Verizon #. The hotline and website are vague about this question. How can I make a good educated decision if I don't have all the facts and nobody can provide them to me!

I purchased my phone 1 1/2 years ago. So how do we turn the phone back in to get our refund? And when can we do this?

I purchased one of the first V710 phones almost 2 years ago. I never received a letter on the class action lawsuit. How do I get a copy of the letter so I can get my money back on this phone and all the accessories I purchased. I would like to be able to make my decision to either cancel my service without charge or to get all of my money back and go with a different phone. So how do I do this and when can I do this? Thanks

I think the law firm that's involved is Kirtland and Packard in California (could be Kirkland). Google them with a comma, then "710" and they should come up. I dealt with a paralegal there named Golnaz Pak (a she).

i just found a company that has a kit which can send your phone book from the 710 to a 3 line screen in your car i dont know how they did it but the company is AUDIO MOBILE,INC IN LONG ISLAND NEW YORK 631 242 4242 MIKE OR PAUL.

screw you verizon

I have had my phone for almost a year, have had nothing but problems with it since day one. I have had my phone replace 3 times and my blue tooth replaced 6 times. Now I have no screen on my phone and they want me to pay 50.00 to have it fixed I'm tired of having all these problems with this phone when is the lawsuit going to be finished and when am I going to receive my letter in the mail so I can mail my phone back and get one that works.

Brian Colby Feb 09 2006

Go to Verizon Wireless' website, they have all of the information there.

Rick Feb 28 2006

If you do a Google search for "Verizon 710 Settlement" you will get all the info you need.

I think all these people are a bunch of whiners, verizon switches your phone out to a e815 motorola that is way better thatn the v710 for free. so I dont see what the problem is it was the manufacturer that started the problem anyways not verizon. most of you didnt even buy the bluetooth headset anyway.i get great service anywhere and i would never give that up.people just want something for free or just be part of a lawsuit.

bryan Apr 10 2006

Has anyone received anything yet on the settlement? I was in the initial mailing and have not received any package or instructions on how to return the phone and they have 1 week left on the 90 day period to get us information (Jan 18th Final Settlement Approved).

dave Apr 19 2006

I haven't received anything yet either, despite being apart of the original claim. I went into a store today too to switch it out, (based off my conversation with customer service for verizon) and of course the store had no idea what to do. That is the problem, the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing. I haven't received anything from the lawfirm yet either though.

mike Apr 22 2006

actually , iam n the settlement, they send me an envoloppe to send back my motorola 710 to the settlement administration, but i could find a phone number where i can send them some information ,i dont want to send my phone then they will tell me they will deduct 100 dollars fro attorney fees ,can somebody help me in this matter , thanks.

alex May 12 2006

I called the attorney and they said a lot of people have yet to mail their phones in. They receieved all my stuff, phone, bluetooth earpiece and spare batteries on April 5th. and I got squat. WTF, this is sooooo unorganized.

I laso am in the suit, I got the form from a friend at Verizon due to my complaints that the phone does not work and my home or office, got MANY dropped calles on I5 in Seattle, Verizon did not care my blue tooth did not work either.
I sent the form in with the option for cancilation and refund of $200, I sENT in the phone 2 months ago, got my verizon service cancilled but no $200, I think the attornys are keeping all the money, wonder what they got paid for the Class Action???? VERIZON/ATTORNEY'S WHERE IS MY FRIGGEN MONEY YOU INCOMPETENT, NON CARING BASTARDS, I WAS WITH YOU FOR 13 YEARS AND YOU DID NOT GIVE A DAMN ABOUT MY NEW V710 NOT WORKING

Justin Jun 16 2006

I too have sent all the required stuff back and have not received any sort of refund, not to mention the new phone I bought came out of my own pocket because the refund has yet to arrive. Its been two months, what the heck is the hold up.

Doris Gallant Jul 06 2006

Has anyone received their refunds yet? I am about to order a new phone and send my V710 to them with my $319 receipt.
I am not in a position to pay for this out of pocket expense for the new phone.
Thank you.

Jenna Albinger Jul 26 2006

I selected option 3 and submitted my receipts for the V710 phone purchase which was $320 and the receipt for my new phone at $75.88... meaning they would give me the difference right? Instead my refund check was only for the $75.88...I am confused. Weren't you suppose to get the difference between the $320 and $75.88???

Stacy Aug 03 2006

Unfortunately you only get refunded the cost of the new phone that you purchased, which totally sucks. I think you should just get the price of the v710 back, i Mean that's the phone you don't want. And since Verizon doesn't let the obex work correctly why would you buy another expensive phone. I wanted to switch back to my old phone, but the settlement administrator said if I wanted any money back I had to purchase a new phone and would only get the cost back of the new phone. Totally sucks. Apparently it's too late to switch to just cancelling your service and getting the money back.

Bryan Wiegers Aug 10 2006

I sent in my old phone and did not order a phone yet. Am i screwed or can i still order my new phone? And has any one received their settlement check yet?
