Chuck Paugh Dec 26 2005

I made the mistake of contacting t-mobile/tmobile customer service today about an issue on my phone service. I mentioned to the representative that I was receiving a "shitty" signal from the tower. The woman, by the name of Brooke, operator ID # 0955532, told me that she would be "hanging up" on me because I was using "foul and abusive language" and she terminated the call.

I will agree that 50 years ago, the use of the term SHIT or SHITTY would have been considered foul language. However, this word is now a part of common language usage. It has been used in TV commercials, by the President of the USA, and other respected members of society. To hang up on me because of my use of the word "shitty" to describe a tower signal shows me how far t-mobile/tmobile continues to lag behind the rest of the industry in treatment of customers.

Before t-mobile/tmobile attempts to expand its services and coverage, maybe it needs to go back and reexamine how it treats and deals with current customers.

Roger V Dec 27 2005

This comment is for Chuck Paugh....
you had a "service issue" ? Welcome to cell phone usage. It amazes me that people think their cell phones should operate like their land line phones.I challenge you to find "one" cell phone carrier that hasen't had complaints about their service. Don't believe all the commecials you see. I have had ALL the cell phone services available, and the best customer service I have ever had has been through T-Mobile! Maybe if you didn't call with a "SHITTY" attitude, you would have gotten the results you were looking for.

Grace Dec 28 2005

AMEN Roger.. i completly agree with you.

j Dec 30 2005

I have found that tmobile is actually one of the better companys in regards to customer care, being somone who uses the word shit shitty, etc in my vocabulary without even thinking

Scott Dec 31 2005

Every used Cricket Wireless? Now that is a company w/ "shitty" service, customer service, and coverage. I love T-mobile's service.

Oh, and for the record...You actually CAN'T say "shit" on TV. At least not in the USA. I wouldn’t have hung up on you for saying that but cursing don't make you sound too intelligent.

Mike B Jan 01 2006

You can't say shit on TV? You must not watch South Park. Anybody know if the t809 is any good with java games?

yeanelle Jan 01 2006

This phone is the best i ever had. And t-mobile is the best company i ever had!!!!!!

randy Jan 05 2006

im a nextel customer and thats a bad ass company especially their dogg ass new phones they got out but their plans are expensive i mean i got most expensive plan and i still go over minets i was a tmobile customer before and i liked it very much and their plans are str8 but the nextel Chirp Chirp is the shit ahhhh ima miss it but represent DETROIT UP IN HURRRRR MY NIGGAZ

mike m. Jan 06 2006

yea i actually work for t-mobile. we're suppose to warn the customer that we can release the call if the customer does not stop using foul language. our calls are recorded for quality purposes. so im sure that the t-mobile rep. did not just hang up on you because thats against company policy. we want to respect customers but we also want respect in return...ya kno?? the t809 is a sick phone by the way, mines comin in a couple of days.

ddubb Jan 06 2006

mike m. i went to my local tmobile store and couldn't get an answer about this phone or any other modern phone out that may come out in the near future. I live in San Fran and work near several tmobile stores and most didn't know what this phone was, none knew anything about anyother future tmobile phones, and none had a demo. Do you have any insight to why they seem so behind the curve. I like tmobiles prices but this irratates the hell out of me.

Matt Jan 08 2006

ddubb. I also work for T-Mobile customer care. Coinsidentaly in the same call center as Brooke mentioned above (although I do not know her personally but I will be sure to pass that info along). As far as the store not knowing about that phone, it sounds like you went to an "authorized" dealer. These stores are not owned or operated by T-Mobile or T-Mobile employees. They are seperate companies that simply sell our service. I gurantee if you go to a corporate store they will know about that phone. That is the hottest phone we have right now, I really want one but I already used my discount for this year =)

Eric Jan 08 2006

Just fyi for T-mobile customers considering the t809... I had the phone about a week and thought it had a lot of great features and was quite pleased except for one problem: I was unable to reference my e-mail via t-zones on it... it allows one to see a list of the mail in the inbox (on the ISP server), but errors when a user trys to open up (look at) the contents of an e-mail. It took a long while and many hassles before T-mobile finally figured out and admitted that this service is not supported with the t809 phone...

schneidog Jan 08 2006

Coming from a SE K750i (flashed to a W800i), the t809 is a nice phone, but still lacks some of the finer features. What I miss most is voice dialing, email (not just SMS) and the connectivity software to the PC is touchy. Also, you can't just assign any mp3 as a ringtone; only mp3's with a special tag that are purchased from T-mobile will work and they want $1.99 each...twice the price of other mp3 online services!

Last...the t809 lacks the in hand feel that the Sony Ericsson k750/w800 and Motorola RAZR have...it feels somewhat cheap.

schneidog Jan 08 2006

Oh...I forgot...The music player and the phone functions can only be run at the same time. As someone that travels quite a bit, I started leaving my iPod at home with the K750/W800. I am going to try and sell the t809 and wait until the W810i comes out...better camera/phone/music player and customizable to boot!

ldawg Jan 09 2006

So you're saying it feels cheap? Like a plastic toy kinda? I was going to get the motorola v360 then I saw this one and wanted to check it out. That sucks about the mp3's. Can you at least have pictures come up when the calls come in?

Stevedawg Jan 10 2006

OK, help me people... is this phone worth a s...quat? I used to be a ludite, stuck on my Atrai Mega ST (still does the job for ---$$$). I've been waiting to upgrade 'till the CES phones hit the market, but my Nokia 6600 got stolen, now I HAVE to get a new phone fast. I used it to connect my iBook to the net on the road via bluetooth, VGA photos suck s...quat, (1.3 Mp is perfect, not too grainy, not too big), and my year contract with t-mobile is recently done. Will this thing iSync w/iBook???!!! (F@#$N s...qt)???? If it lives up to it's specs, i might feel like my old 6600 was living in Europe, where technology works FOR YOU!!! Seriously, anyone actually used this thing? I hate to leave T-Mobile because their service has been upside of fair, which for the US market is 1000% better than anyone else here, but I can get a $1000.00 phone for 10 bucks online from ^$#@^%&$*(9...

John Jan 10 2006

I've used t809 for over a week now. It rocks, EXCEPT:
1) phonebk is limited to 16char & not as robust as phonebk on Samsung A900 (T-Mobile, offer this phone!) A900- one name, multiple numbers; T809- one name, one number
3) Phonebk- can't add pauses to dialing numbers
2) I miss voice dialing!

Every other aspect about the phone is hot- size, ease of use, clarity, signal quality, mp3 sound quality- all very good.

MPower Jan 10 2006

:::ddubb::: I bought my phone at the T-Mobile store in Redwood City on El Camino Real back on the 31st. Not sure why you'd have trouble finding it in a t-mo store just a few miles north. good luck, if you haven't already found one.

The t809 has been great so far, I just upgraded from the E715 that I've had for 2 years and it's pretty neat. I'm not a demanding cell user, just want something that works, easy to use but not *too* simple, sends texts/pics and takes decent pics. I wanted a BT phone too and this phone is a great little package. Screen resolution rocks and everyone I know is now jealous and wants it :)

Eddie O Jan 11 2006

Hello, I am a T-Mobile Corp Sales Associate Van Nuys, CA. There is a way to assign the, Samsung SGH-T809, MP3 to play with the incoming call. Just rename your MP3 to "3gp" before sending to phone/Trans Flash. Any other questions?

ldawg Jan 11 2006

so how do i do that. i just tried to save it and its coming up with
"nokia multimedia player file"
and not showing up on my phone.

John Jan 12 2006

What's HOT:
Been using this phone for two weeks. I REALLY like it! This is a really slick phone. Reception is great- I upgraded from a Samsung E335 so reception and clarity are much improved. Even with one bar, I can hear and be heard. There is very little play in the slider when closed. The screen is a thing of beauty! It's so slim, it goes in my pants pocket- no holster or pouch needed. The stereo headphone w/ inline mic is quite nice- nice quality & good sound. Bluetooh functions w/o a hitch- acknowledgement is almost instantaneous. Msg tone has one loud chime then lowers and gradually grow loud again- this should be the industry standard! The camera has so many editing features! Did I mention how luscious the screen is?

What's NOT:
Eddie O, is there any way to add pauses to phone numbers in phonebook? Can you have more than 4 Playlists? I wish the screen was matte instead of glossy (fingerprints!) I wish the slider could open just a little more- this would make room for slightly bigger buttons. Samsung, put the A900 phonebook in this phone! I miss voice dialing. The A900 has a beautiful voice training feature that this phone should have.

The gist:
9/10 for a phone that is at once stylish, functional, and feature rich where it counts. Samsung has a winner here and I'm glad T-Mobile has it.

Putnik M Jan 14 2006

How's screen in day light ? can you see anything ?
what abouth fonts , are thya hard to see , I got my RAZER few months a go from Tmobill and IT IS NOT wat people think it is , sound is not good at all,
in day light is usless , as for Tmobill service ,
if they trow u a bone it does not meen that service is good ,they to are rood and with atitude " my way or highway .
Im with Tmobile 4 y now , I know ther customerNOservice well.
So for those of you that cant waight to get Samsung t809 WAIGHT , it may turn out to be onother big hyp .

Jim Jan 16 2006

Have been using the phone for a month now. The phone provides great voice call quality but T-Mobile took out a few standard features such as:
POP3 access,
Ability to read Word, Excel and Powerpoint file.

I also have the Rarz V3i and V3x (UMTS rarz) and I can tell you the phones all provide compatible sound/voice call quality.

T-Mobile had finally fixed the problem they had with email via tzone with the T809. It works as of today Jan/15/06.

Jeff Jan 16 2006

I'm having the same e-mail issue via t-zones, and as of today (1/16/06) there is no resolution and no ETA. Other than that (with is a sticking point for me), its a slick phone...however right now I'm willing to chuck it and go back to my Razr to get my e-mail back.

lori Jan 17 2006

Waz up...I just got my T809 and it is the best phone ever, but having problems w/the MP3 part, Does anyone know how to download music from your computer to the T809 using USB cables?
Thanks

John Jan 17 2006

For Lori:
To download mp3 to your phone's on-board memory, set your USB port as modem in the phone menu and use the PC Studio software to manage files. To download mp3 to the micro SD chip, set your USB to Mass Storage and access it just like a removable drive.

For Putnik M, the screen is beautiful in bright sunlight, truly the nicest screen I've seen. Fonts for dialing and messages are clear and ledgible. Reception is better than several other Samsung phones I've had.

lori Jan 17 2006

To John:
thanks alot for the input. Cross your fingers...

Kingston Jan 19 2006

Anyone else had problems with the Samsung t809's screen. I've had mine less than two weeks, been treating it like a small child, have not dropped, bumped or mishandled it AT ALL a couple days ago I noticed a small,(I mean really, REALLY small) "something" on the screen but thought it was nothing more than dust or something trapped under the screen as happens with pretty much every phone. Well since then the really, REALLY small "something" has turned into a one inch crack across the upper left corner of the screen. Just curious if anyone else had such an issue. Other than that the phone is great I'm just afraid I'll have to fork over $275 again for a new phone :-(

Zeke Jan 19 2006

I have a big question. Which do all of you think is better, The Sidekick 2 or the Samsung T809 and why?

Guillermo Jan 20 2006

I got my t809 about two weeks ago and the one problem ive had with it is dust in the upper leftpart of the screen. it makes it look bad, i think its dust that leaked into the inside of the screen, T-Mobile said that they could replace it but the phone would be sent to a warehouse and if they found that the problem was because of something i did, they would bill me $100 so i dont know if i should exchange it or not

As for T-Mobile customer service, they have the best customer service people i know, theyre nice and they actually sound human and treat you like a person

ricardo Jan 21 2006

Hi i just got the samsung t809 and does anybody know how to make the playback full screen or atleast bigger i would really appreciate it if someone can reply with a way how thanks

nohemy Jan 21 2006

Diana Jan 22 2006

Hi all,

I had a Samsung phone briefly last year and I'm again having the same problem: I can not assign ringtones to contacts from my phonebook, not to a group. I know how to assign a ringtone and have never had a problem with any other brand, and I did read the manual so I don't know what gives. Anyone? Please reply to me at meow646@yahoo.com

Thanks!

Diana

Diana Jan 22 2006

Continuation for above question: The phone says "saved" when I assign a ringtone to a contact, as well as a Group, but then when calls come in, the ringtone is the same one for any calls that come through. What gives??

Thanks,

Diana

ldawg Jan 24 2006

jess.....hit the number 1 on the keypad while playing videos..

ive had mine for two weeks or so....i love it..

i wish you could have a playlist for the music on the card and not just on the phone. i bought a 512mb transflash so i have lots of videos and music on it now.

ldawg Jan 24 2006

nm about the playlist..i just figured it out...

i have no problems with this phone at all...if you have a problem and it sticks or it says it did something and didnt...

try turnign it off and turning it back on and doing it agian....we tend to leave our phones on forever but they arent made to do that.

ricky Jan 24 2006

Idawg wat will pressing 1 on the keypad while playing the video do i would really appreciate it if u could explain thanks. is it gonna make the screen bigger?

amy Jan 24 2006

Can it support emails like Sidekick II?

Should i change to this phone from sidekick II?

amy Jan 24 2006

can you answer the phone from the bluetooth earpiece?

John Jan 25 2006

Amy: I'm not familiar w/ Sidekick but I have a bluetooth earpiece paired with this phone and the response is almost instantaneous. You can answer, redial, and hang up with a BT earpiece.

jess Jan 26 2006

idawg so by pressing 1 whie recording will make the playback screen bigger

John C Jan 28 2006

I just got the t809 and I heard somewhere that you can set mp3's as ringtones and i cant figure out to do this. could someone please explain

John Jan 30 2006

For John C:
From Eddie O's Jan 11 posting-
"Hello, I am a T-Mobile Corp Sales Associate Van Nuys, CA. There is a way to assign the, Samsung SGH-T809, MP3 to play with the incoming call. Just rename your MP3 to "3gp" before sending to phone/Trans Flash."

It's important that you go to Tools-> Folder Options-> View and disable "Hide extension for known file types" so you can change MP3 to 3GP.

ricardo Jan 30 2006

im confused with how to put mp3's as ringtones i tried everything that people have said on this website but none of them work wen i change the name it sys file may be inusable and it doesnt let me assign my mp3's as ringtones wat do i do?

MIKEY Jan 31 2006

That MP3 to 3GP really works thanks a lot Eddie. i have plenty of ringtones that works now. I didnt use the Samsung PC suite. i just right click the song, change the name MP3 to 3GP and file transfer to removable transcard 512mb

Greg Jan 31 2006

Let's say i have changed an MP3 to 3GP on my computer; to which folder on the phone should i upload it to? PC Studio doesn't let me put my 3PG to the phone. MP3s work fine, but you can't use them as ringtones.

leo Feb 01 2006

just ordered one with $39.99 1500 1 year plan. phone is free after rebate.

Mikey Feb 01 2006

It's important that you go to my Music then Tools-> Folder Options-> View and disable "Hide extension for known file types" so you can change MP3 to 3GP.
You dont have to install PC studio. when your on the my Music page, click the music file change the .Mp3 to .3gp it will ask it may be unusable but click yes, then Right click the song with .3gp and send to removable transflash. move the 3gp(with video) file to phone memory to music, then you can use it as ringtone, caller tone, alarm tone.. it really works this phone is the greatest so far. its small and comparable with nokia 6680 to me. Camera is excellent with lots of features.

ldawg Feb 01 2006

leo...you got the phone for free? where and how?

as far as pressing 1....while a video is in play mode you can press 1 and it will enlarge the video to the size of the entire screen. like downloaded videos. while recording i dont think that happens. havent tried. i thought when you're recording its the entire screen anyways like taking a picture?

as far as ringtones....if you have mediaplayer.. open the mp3 with mediaplayer and click save as. when you save it to the card just save it as "example.3gp" after that it will beable to be used as a ringtone on your phone.

twin Feb 04 2006

how can i play videos on the t809 because i change the format to either mp4 0r 3gp but when i put it on my phone and move to phone it does not play i find the file in other files and i have to trash so i will like to know how do u play video

C.Daitch Feb 07 2006

Does anyone know how the reception/signal strength compares to the Razr? We've had tons of problems in the past with not being able to use cell phones inside our house at all, my husband just got a Razr yesterday and its amazing even in the basement we have perfect reception. I'd like to get the t809 but I'm concerned it might not be up to par with the razr in terms of reception?

Does anyone know if t-mobile would allow me to switch to a Razr if I get the 809 and can't get a signal in my house?

Al Feb 07 2006

I'm reading alot of reviews mentioning this strange "dust" issue with the upper left hand corner, anyone here have that problem? Any word from t-mobile on it?

paul R Feb 09 2006

oki dunno iF im just not seeing how to this or whats goin on, but how do you set a downloaded ringtone to incoming messages(text, voicemail, etc.)???

joe Feb 09 2006

does anyone know where i can find different headphones from this phone?

carol Feb 09 2006

I dunno wher you can find headphones. sorry. how do you put videos onto this phone. i changed them to 3gp. is there something else i do?

Mike Feb 10 2006

AL

YES!! I have that same thing... the phantom "dust" in the upper left portion of the screen. I called T-Mobile, who in turn called Samsung. They said it's a known issue in about "1%" of the t809s. However, from what I am reading and hearing, it's a lot more common than that.

T-Mobile is exchanging my phone for free. If this new one has the same issues, I may be finding a new phone.
----------------------------------

Also, regarding the MP3 -> 3GP thing. I think the simplest way is to "rename" the file on your PC to the "3GP" file extension. Now, move it onto your transflash card. Once the card is in your phone, choose "Fun & Apps" and then "File Manager". Now choose "Memory Card" and locate your file (whatever folder you put it in on your card, i.e. "music"). Highlight the file and choose the OPTIONS soft-key. Now select "Set As" and now select "Ringtone" (or "Caller ringtone" or "Alarm tone"). It will ask you to confirm... Then you're done!
----------------------------------
My question:

Can I keep it from automatically LOCKING the keypad all the time? That's annoying the shit out of me.

raj Feb 12 2006

how to put own mp3 ringtone in nokia 6600 via memory cadr reader. mp3 ringtone save in memory card. plz give idea...........

marlon Feb 15 2006

i upgraded my transflash from 32mb to 512mb but my computer and phone doesn't recognize it. do i have to format it? i tried right clicking-> format, but it says there is no disk in the drive.

Daveel1inPhilly Feb 15 2006

In response to Mike B's question about if the t809 can download games: IN MY EXPERIENCE THE ANSWER IS _ELL NO!@#3@3#!#. THERE IS SOMEKIND OF ISSUE WITH TMOBILES HOME PAGE,TZONES, AND THE FACT THAT THE T809 IS SO NEW THAT MOST DEVELOPERS DON'T HAVE ANY GAMES FOR IT. ITS SO CRAZY THAT THE PHONE COMES WITH A GAME CALLED BLOCKBREAKER IN DEMO FORMAT AND I CANT EVEN ACCESS TZONES TO PURCHASE THE FULL VERSION. TMOBILE DOES ALLOW YOU TO GET MORE, BUT NOT OF THE THINGS THAT I NEED MOST. SERIOUSLY TMOBILE IS A GOOD COMPANY. ONE OF THE BEST OUT THERE(IN TERMS OF SERVICE). THEY SHOULD JUST CHOOSE BETTER HIGH END PHONES

SINCERLY, DAVE-EL

Jayson Feb 16 2006

I just want to put my $.02 in. In the next week, I'll be transitioning from one job to another, where I will have to purchase a new phone (sticking with t-mobile as my carrier). It's a shame, though, because if i had the choice, I would most definitely wait until the w810 comes out. But since I can't, I will be going with the t809 as my interim phone. Nothing against the t809, I think the phone is sweet but if you're in a similar boat as I am, or even better yet, if the timing puts you right at the time that the w810 comes out, I would recommend at least researching into that phone..because, as I've been doing a lot of research in phones and carriers, I haven't seen a phone that matches the w810 in features. I just really can't believe that the t809 doesn't have voice dialing...just blows my mind.

Also, if you're interested in the w810, don't confuse it with the w800i, because the w800i is a tri-band and is missing the 800mhz band, which, t-mobile is expanding their networks with. Whereas, the w810 is targeted at the US market and is a quad-band and will most likely get picked up by t-mobile.

cynthia Feb 24 2006

everytime i try to open my removable disk drive it just says to "insert disk into drive F:"... what do i do?

Zack Mar 06 2006

Cynthia, go to menu >> Settings >> Phone Settings >> USB Setttings >> and then whatever you're on just choose the other one (either modem or mass storage because i confuse the two, one gets your fone on the computer but wont be read as a removable disk while the other reads the T-Flash as a removable drive.)
Hope this helps
Oh and for anyone who thinks you CANNOT make your mp3 ringtones for free you can.
you just have to change it to a .3gp and it works perfectly. if yu dont know how run a search on google and a lot of sights have a runthru how to do it.
The t-809 is definitly NOT cheap feeling. ive dropped this fone probly 10 times in the month ive had it and its fine. not a scratch.
The only real complaint i have is that the top row of numbers is sometimes a little tricky to get to when your trying to text people quickly. Besides from that im amazed with the superiority of this phone over every other.

sean Mar 08 2006

sean Mar 08 2006

Can I set many different custom mp3 ringtones for different group?

TheMan Mar 24 2006

I have the Smasung T809 as well. It's a great phone except for the dust on the top left hand corner. This is not a big issue as long as Sumsung admits it's an issue. I work for T-Mobile as well.

Wan Mar 24 2006

i have a question after i move my songs to my phone and set the songs on the play list. I wanted to delete teh songs so i can hvae more space, but i end up deleting the songs in the playlist too. How can i save it to teh playlist????

jeff Apr 05 2006

To watch videos on your t809, download a 3gp video converter like xilisoft and convert your movie file into 3gp. You should change the video size to the highest setting before converting. Then send the file to "other files" on your phone through the software suite. Then on your phone, go to "other files" and move the file to the memory card under the video folder. Now you can watch all your videos on your phone. Press 1 for full size screen. Its a pretty sweet phone.

jahn maister Apr 15 2006

I cant put videos on this phone! I tried to rename it to 3gp and it still didnt work!Anyone know how? Please help quick!

Andy Apr 16 2006

vicfett Apr 18 2006

Please please let me post. Does anybody know why i'm not being able to format my new micro sd card?
Did I get a bad card?
I've tried everything and can't get it to work right or to even format. Sometimes it works half butted, but then kicks off and back to the norm.
Any help would be eternally greatful!

Mike Apr 27 2006

I have converted my mp3 to .3gp for ringtones but are there any ways to make it ring with the loudest volume without starting with a low volume and gradually getting louder? Thanks.

Karen Apr 29 2006

Hello all. Is there a way to use a ringtone for your message alert? There are only 10 message tones given & I'd like to change that.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Ed May 09 2006

First off, the T-809 is an excellent phone. It's similar to the Nokia 6600 in that it's rather quirky and demands that you take some time with it. This is not a phone you figure out while on the highway. For example - having to convert mp3s into 3gps to use as ringers. Seems the price you pay for such a feature-rich, yets somewhat affordable mobile phone. As for T-Mobile, I've had every service except Verizon, which I hear is good - aside from when they disabled bluetooth. Unfortunately, Verizon units cannot be used overseas so, in my mind, there is nothing 'world' class about Verizon. What's more, T-Mobile is the only carrier that has never over-billed me. Sprint is notorious for doing so.... even had a class-action lawsuit against them. Sprint is like Hertz Rentals - best for corporate accounts. As for reception, there is no answer. This depends not only on the phone or the carrier but the city, whether in, on, behind a hill or building. In the end, most advanced mobile phones require you sit down with them and figure out how they work before espousing venom over your frustration. Samsung's T-809 is a fine phone, but surely Samsungs first attempt as was Nokia's 6600 a first attempt at an operating system. T-Mobile & Cingular are the only American companies that make world phones worth having. Of the two, T-Mobile has better minutes and service. For those of you that think T-Mobile is a mom & pop shop, know that its parent company is giant Deutsche Telekom of Germany. Perhaps that's why they don't stiff you (billing / minutes) like typical American corporations. Hmm.

Ok, so I'm having problems with my phone. I added about 15 songs to my phone and about 5 to my memory card and all of the sudden it won't download anymore all it says is "insufficient memory". Please tell me what to do.

alan May 10 2006

my message alert tone doesn't work. It will only beep once, even if you set it to beep every 1-2 mins. I have tried different settings, is this a software issue?? if so, where/how can we get the upgrade?

Thanks

how can i use the MP3s as ringtones ?

Batty Jun 06 2006

hey every body,
i got Samsung T809 about i month ago , but i couldn,t set the Mp3 file as a ring tone . if any body knows about this then please tell me ?

Sathish Jun 07 2006

For people who are not able to use the phone Micro SD as a "Removable Storage" read on...

You need to initialize the card first. This can be done as:

1. Remove the connection from PC if you have one.
2. On phone, Go to Menu->Fun & Apps ->File Manager ->Memory Card. Click "Select". It says "Initializing". Then try to connect to the system after a couple of minutes. It worked for me. Also try restarting the phone after "Initializing" appears

Phil Jun 07 2006

I got this phone for a month. Love it so far. Right now I am working on put movie in it. Tried so many method. For now, I feel MP4 has better quality than 3GP but there is other problem. Phone seems can't read file size bigger than 150mb. still working on it. Hope someone has good experience can share your info. Thanks.

Phil Jun 09 2006

Rign Tone:
Please use music editor program come with phone to cut out 30 seconds from music that you like to be your ring tone. Chnage the extension from mp3 or acc to 3gp. "MOVE FILE TO MEMORY CARD IN YOUR PHONE." then you can select that file as rign tone. Phone will copy it into main phone. then you shall enjoy your very own ring tone as well.
Video:
There is one great free tool called "3gp_converter034". easily to find from internet. convert mepg or avi to "3GPP+AAC WITH XviD ENCODING" base on what quality you like to set up QVGA high quality or normal quality stereo. move file to memory card. wala... enjoy the movie on the go.

jen Jun 10 2006

another way to set the mp3 to ringtone. without changing formats I made sure that the song was saved on my phone. Then I went to change the incoming call. you may choose the available ringtones and your mp3 song shows gray. select it anyways, than hit back and save (even though the title hads not changed). Go back and the tone will be set. good luck.

gregory Jun 14 2006

please help me ya'll, i have been trying to get this mp3 to work on my t809 but for some reason it's not working out for me; it keeps on giving a message saying that the phone is not connected,in which i do have the the usb cable attached correctly.

phil Jun 14 2006

Hi, there.
I have the similiar problem sometime. The method I tried was to switch between modem and mass storage. Keep on going, you will be lucky to get your PC to recongize the USB cable. Another way is to use the manager program from samsung. use it to detect the phone. It works most of time.
If you still have problem with all the trying. Try the always work way. Take out the memory card and insert it into USB card reader. Use the card reader to transfer music, video and anything you want. And then put it back to phone. Wish you luck.

gregory Jun 15 2006

what is the manager program from samsung, because all i have is the software.

shani Jun 22 2006

samsung t809- i had only 16 songs on my mp3 and i can't download more, it says (phone)memory full. the memory card stores only 3-4 songs. would compressing song size help? but how would i do that. please help.

Sarah Jun 26 2006

Just a tip for those of you trying to set MP3s as ringtones, but still are getting the message: "Not Supported Content".

I did the whole changing the file extensions from .mp3 to .3gp. However, I noticed that when I switched what application opened the file (from iTunes to Quicktime) that's when the file name change kicked in. My Mac will actually show that the type of file has changed from "MPEG" to "3GPP movie."

I don't know about PCs (this is with a Powerbook G4). But this worked beautifully. (after I figured the flippin' bug out)

anony Jun 26 2006

Hello does anyone know how to repeat songs when the songs are on the memory card? Every time I play a song that is on the memory card they only play once and I would have to go back in order to play the next song...so if anyone knows how to put it on repeat then it would be very very much appreciated soooooo thanks ahead of time! =] Also is there anyone out there that knows how to create a playlist straight on the memory card...alright thanks no more from me

mona Jul 19 2006

I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING AND STILL NO LUCK IN MAKING MY MP3 INTO RINGTONE I DO I TAKE THE MEMORY CARD OUT OF THE PHONE AND PUT IT INTO THE COMPUTER OR DO I KEEP THE CARD IN THE PHONE PLEASE HELP

Eun Hee Jul 19 2006

HERE IS HOW YOU MAKE A RINGTONE FOR YOUR SAMSUNG T809:

1)Make a 30 sec. or less music clip of your desired song using the samsung PC Studio 3 music editor (the program comes with your phone).

2)Save that file as an MP3.

3)Now here is where you have to make a little change to your computer's settings...Alright so go to MY COMPUTER then select TOOLS after that you select FOLDER OPTIONS alright now you click on the tab that says VIEW scroll down until you see HIDE EXTENSIONS FOR KNOWN FILE TYPES now the box next to that should be checked soooo uncheck it...and that makes all your files show the extensions such as mp3, wmv, etc.

4)OK so make sure you can see the extension and once you do, you change the extension of that music clip you made from MP3 to 3GP
*NOTE: IT WILL TELL YOU THAT IF YOU CHANGE THE FILE IT WILL BECOME UNUSABLE...JUST SAY YES*

5)Now hopefully you know how to import that into your phone either using the usb cable that comes with it ooor bluetooth but personally i like using the usb cord.

6)When you get it into the trans flash card, you go to your phone and you want to move that music clip from your memory card into the phone

7)Find the clip inside your phone's memory and it should now allow you to set it as a personal ringtone

I hope this helped anyone that needed to know =]

Now hopefully someone can help me with my problem that I posted earlier =]

mona Jul 19 2006

Eun Hee

in order to have the same song repeat more than once you have to go to file manager -my music -options then go to settings and click on the repeat mode and make it go to
i hope this helps

also concerning my problem do i put the memory card into my computer to download ring tones to it or should i keep the card in my phone

anon Jul 20 2006

for anyone still having trouble with the "Please insert a disk into drive F" or whatever drive it may be, you need to make sure that these things are complete

1.installed drivers for the phone from the CD
2.enabled mass storage in the phone settings
3.restart both your phone and pc

ky Jul 21 2006

i can't even get the card into the phone. i feel like an idiot. and how do i get music on it?

Eun Hee Jul 21 2006

mona
you should keep that memory card inside your phone, then plug the usb cord into your phone and then that goes into your computer

Eun Hee Jul 21 2006

oh and also to mona:
when youre saying file manager and options do you mean i have to do this all on the computer oooor does this mean i have to do this on my phone?

stacy Jul 23 2006

i just got the t809 and i wasnt sure if it was possible to upload videos from the phone to the computer? if yes, how?

David Jul 23 2006

Hi everyone,

I'm having a similar problem to the one Andy had. I've had my T809 for several months now and love it except for the fact that it will not work with bluetooth headsets. Usually it flat out refuses to pair and on the rare occasion that it does it will kick the connection a few seconds later. It's done this with a Motorola HS 850, a Plantronics Voyager 510 and a Nokia HS-26W. All three headsets easily paired with a Motorola Razr so I know the headsets were fine.

I called T-Mobile and they best they could do was shove me off to Samsung. Samsung gave me an RMA for the and after having it two weeks they sent it back to me saying it was repaired but it wasn't. The sheet said the following repairs were performed,

"LOAD SW, PASS COMPLIANCE, WAP RESET & PASS ADJUST."

Now I have to send the phone back to Samsung and hope they actually fix it this time.

I notice earlier in this thread that Andy had a similar problem. Has anyone else had this problem or know anyone that's had this problem?

Fauna Jul 27 2006

So I have made some ringtones using the Samsung PC Studio....followed the above directions from Eun Hee and cannot figure out how to save the ringtones as .3GP format. The only options the Samsung PC Studio gives me is to format as a .wav, .mp3, .amr, or .aac. Please help!

Fauna Jul 27 2006

Okay, so disregard my last message. I figured out how to save my ringtones as .3GP's however, I am still unable to turn them into ringtones after I have them on my phone. I transfer them from my memory card to my phone and when I try to save them as a ringtone the option is still grayed out. Why is this so darn difficult.

Britt Jul 29 2006

Ok. So maybe i'm just remedial, but this mp3/3gp ringtone thing is sooo confusing! My problems:

1. I changed the file I wanted to a 3gp with no problem, but how do I get it on my Memory Card?

2. I tried opening the file in the sound editor and it says that it cannot recognize it.

If anyone can help, please? All I want to do is edit the songs and set them as ringtones, it seems everyone else has got it, but I just can't seem to.

Britt Jul 29 2006

Ok, the remedial one again. I just figured out how to save the files to the memory card, but how do I get them into the sound editor to shorten it to just the part I want?? (problem 2 above)

Britt Jul 29 2006

Is there any way I can change my songs from itunes to go on my phone without changing the file so that it doesn't play in itunes anymore??

*After I change the song to a 3gp itunes doesn't allow me to play it because it cannot locate the file.

(an answer to this and the question above as well.. please??)

Rachel Jul 29 2006

Help!!
hElp!!!
heLp
I am able to change the file format from the songs to .3gp, get them on my memory card, but when I try to save it to my phone to set as a ringtone it says "not supported format", why?? And how can I pleeease change it?

Eun Hee Jul 31 2006

*FOR ANYONE STILL HAVING TROUBLE*
~well btw...I am sorry that my instructions up there werent very helpful to anyone =/...I will try to make another one in order to try and fix those problems other people had...I didnt know how to do this at first too but I looked around and figured out how to do it and it truly does work if you did everything i posted earlier...at least for the most part lol~

Well anywho here is a revised one:

WHAT YOU NEED TO HAVE ALREADY DONE:
~A song that is already in mp3 format
~A showing of your file extension (check my above post to see how to do that)
~Installation of the Samsung PC Studio

~INSIDE YOUR COMPUTER~
INSTRUCTIONS:
1)Make that 30 sec. or less clip!...or else your phone will cut off your ringtone...maybe make a clip of the chorus of the song...hopefully everyone knows how to to that? If not then...
*OPEN THE SONG IN THE SOUND EDITOR
*COPY A CERTAIN PART OF THAT SONG
*PRESS NEW AT THE TOP LEFT AND PASTE IT
*THEN PRESS "SAVE AS..." SAVE AS MP3
*NAME IT WHATEVER YOU WANT

2)Find where you saved the song and change it to 3gp...make sure you can see your extension

3)Connect the usb cable that came with your phone to your phone and connect the other side of that usb to your computer

4)Click the "manage files" in your Samsung PC Studio...it opens the PHONE EXPLORER

5)Find that song again and then you right click and copy that song

6)Then click MY COMPUTER under the PC section of the Phone Explorer

5)In MY COMPUTER, Find the REMOVABLE DISK (F:) and click that

7)There should be folders that say IMAGES, MUSIC, SOUNDS, etc., click into the folder that says MUSIC and paste the song clip in there

8)Now take out the usb cord from your phone

~INSIDE YOUR PHONE~
INSTRUCTIONS:
1)Press MENU
2)Go into FUN AND APPS
3)Go into FILE MANAGER
4)Go into MEMORY CARD
5)Go into MUSIC..the song clip should be in there
6)Press OPTIONS and go down to MOVE TO...you want to move it to the phone
7)Go out of the MEMORY CARD and back to the FILE MANAGER
8)Go into MUSIC...it should be in MY MUSIC
9)Find the song in there and press OPTIONS
10)Go down to SET AS and set it as RINGTONE...ok well it SHOULD work...if it is still greyed out then...I am sorry everyone and do not know how else to write all this =/

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE THAT NEEDS THIS

Do anyone know where to go to get the MP3 Songs..Help

et Aug 10 2006

Help; ok, I am technologically slow anymore--can't afford to keep up with all the new stuff. I got the t809 on my upgrade; where do you find mp3's to send to phone?? I have many songs with the WMA ext. and RXA etc; i tried a converter and it won't let me do it. I just now found out by downloading a song from iTunes that these don't go to other devices. HELP please. I would like to try it out.

Robert Aug 11 2006

does anyone has an idea where can i find a free t-mobile t809 video converter. Plus this phone is HOT!!!! LOL

Kirk Aug 12 2006

Just bought 2GB microSd by SanDisk for the Samsung T809; but the phone doesn't recognize it. any suggestions/solutions???

Travis Aug 12 2006

hmm, I'm debating on buying this phone or not. I'm leaning more to buying it, and understand all the 3GP, MP4, and all that junk. My only question is when you play a movie you uploaded as eithera 3GP or MP4, is the framerate still nice (framerate as in, it doesn't skip so much). Also, I haven't messed with these two formats too much, but was wondering which was more compact or better quality? I've heard that 150 mb was the highest you can play at once, adn was wondering if that's big enough to put an entire compressed movie onto? Thanks for the help, and thanks Eun Hee for all your STEP by STEP introductions, and i'm srry that no one seems to catch on xD.

MELeBlanc Aug 15 2006

Just bought 2GB microSd by SanDisk for the Samsung T809; but the phone doesn't recognize it. any suggestions/solutions???

According to Samsung's support site.. the max supported is 512MB.. though I am sure I have seen people mention using a 1GB.

flyguybos Aug 20 2006

As one who has been thru 4 tMobile Razr phones, I am very pleased with my new t809.....EXCEPT for the very short battery life! Has anyone else encountered this? After a full charge it is running out of battery after as little as 1.5 hours of talk time - spread out over one day - always with a full signal. tMobile is sending a replacement battery, but I wondered how long other users batteries are lasting on standby, between charges......

Valleho Aug 24 2006

I got videos on my phone, but the videos dont look as clean and neat as the sample video that comes with the phone, is there any way to make my videos as neat and live looking like the sample video on the phone?

frank Aug 25 2006

how do i download and watch videos on my t809

Thuy Aug 27 2006

Is there any way to put the music that is saved on your memory card on a playlist WITHOUT having to put the music onto the phone memory?

Axel Aug 28 2006

I just ordered this phone - looks pretty neat. There are a few things I was wondering about:

Does it play AAC tracks? Samsung USA doesn't say, so I visited samsung FRANCE to find out: they don't have the same models but all music player enabled phones seem to play AAC...

Will I be able to sinc with my G4 Powerbook (bluetooth enabled) in other ways than bluetooth??

Is the samsung software provided Mac-compatible? If not, what alternaatives are there??

I'm sorta lazy so I only read thru half the forum. If these questions have already been answered just refer me to the appropriate post. Thanks for any help...

jasmine Aug 30 2006

Wow you all are so pethitic am sorry, but this phone rocks it really doesn't need anything else! i have to say this is the best tmobile phone ever. the best thing is the 3d sound on the mp3 player

well maybe i could help some of you
ok save your mp3 song!
go to the folder where your mp3 song is. click tools, folder options, view, and check the hide extensions for known file types, then go to your song file, it will say the song name then .mp3 change that to .3gp a pop up will come just click yes. after doing all of that you can easily just send the file using samsung pc studio or just the mass storage modem.

i just need a little help with the video is there anyway when u view the video, make the size a little bigger? just this is what i want otherwise the phone rocks

Angel Sep 07 2006

if u want to watch videos with the full screen press the "1" on the keypad as the movie plays.

this fone is hot i can't notice any problem with it. i love the camera realyy incredible angles. u can turn the camera 180 degrees in any direction! this fone uses sound formats mid, amr and 3gp (changed mp3's) as ringtones and mp4, 3gp as movies.
great solid fone i ever had.
another thing...
flip phones have lost charisma these days coz they are all over the place with every brand. this slider is super cool and classic.
Any probs. with ur t809 i can help u out. otherwise the problem is just you!

Eun Hee Sep 10 2006

Angel,
Hi i was wondering if you knew how to put songs on repeat mode when theyre still in the memory card...or do you even know if thats possible lol
ok thanks ahead of time

haze Sep 14 2006

my t809 wont let me use my music for a ringtone i did everything frome doing the hid extension n changing the mp3 to a 3gp n wen i tryd to set it as a ringtone is just says "not supporetd content" any suggestions

bobo Sep 15 2006

Does anyone know the maximum size of MicroSD card that the Samsung t809 can operate with?

angel Sep 15 2006

hey Eun Hee,
You can access songs o ur memory card via ur mp3 player without transfering the songs to ur fone's memory. follow the steps:
open ur Mp3 player
open the options menu on the mp3 skin
select the "open" menu
and select my current playlist (if the number of songs on it hasn't reached 30)
select "my playlist" if the current playlist folder has reached it's limit.
when the current playlist folder opens press the left soft key (to open options)
select "add music from"
select memory card
then select all the songs u wish to listen to on ur mp3 player from the memory card. and add.
all selected and added songs will play continously when u launch the mp3 player so u won't have to play the songs singly from the memory card.
Note: the song will not be moved to ur fone. (very useful to save fone memory)
If u have any more problems feel free to reach me at eastangel4sure@yahoo.com.
have fun with ur fone.

angel Sep 15 2006

hey bobo,
the samsung t809 will support at max a 512MB microsd card. this can contain up to 5 full DVD movies, and a whole bunch of songs. I would not recommend anything higher becos the speed of the fone will be affected and with the battery life it will illogical to say u want to listen to more than 40 songs within 3+ hrs. peeps with as many as 100 songs don't even get to listen to half the number of songs on their IPOD's!!
well i hope u find this post useful. Have fun with ur t809. it's a awesome fone.

angel Sep 15 2006

hey haze,
make sure of one thing: the song is a real mp3 file not an extension tampered file!get mp3's using napster or limewire or ares. change the extension in the "properties" of the file from mp3 to 3gp. a window will pop and ask " are u sure u want to change" click yes.
Just from experience reduce the number of characters of the mp3 file name to at most 7 to make things easier.
move the file to ur memory card(sounds folder!!!) from ur PC.
Access the song from ur fone via file manager>memory card>sounds
u can set it as ringtone from there.
u can also try moving the file to ur fone but this time u'll have to access it thru file manager>music>my music.
it should work.

Phil Sep 20 2006

I have t809 for over 3 months. time to share what i have the experiences. dropped couples time so the camera can't mirror the image. but others all fine. Now I have 1Gb memory, must use utra high speed to get it works, highly recommend. I like to play AAC format song. actually you then will find out. AAC, 3gp, mp4 are all the same. Better to use card reader to move file around. faster and easy to control. I cut movie to smaller something like 100-150mb so i don't have to watch over again to get the point from last time. battery obly good for 45min for a movie watching.

bobo Sep 20 2006

Thanks Angel for the tip.

Well most of you guys know about the fullscreen mode on the T809 when you press the "1" button... so does anyone here know if T-mobile's new Samsung T629 also have this function?

Cany anyone tell me if there are getting lots of static on their wireless headset and this phone.
I have used the motorola HS850 and just got the Jabra JX10 and i have to put the phone close up to the head set in order to get good clarity. Even then its still shitty.
I have connected this headset to a razor and even at 30 ft away it is clear as a whistle.
Any suggestions

vikingo Sep 27 2006

Hey Qstorm: I have a Motorola H700 bluetooth headset. The quality of the sound is AWFULL; using a headset is almost impossible. I thought that the headset was broken; i will test it with a different phone to see what happens, and I'll post back...

Cindy Sep 30 2006

To add to the list...
I have had a Samsung D807 for 2 months now and also had a small spec in the upper left side (down & over about 1/8" from the edge).
This later turned into a long hairline crack angling down and to the right, within a few hours of noticing the spec. The crack seems to be under the screen. I also treated it well,no drops, don't put it in my back pocket or with other things. I can't explain it, but hope that Cingular will replace it without fees.

Does anyone know how to make ringtunes with the music editor? I understand that you must shorten the song to a 30 sec clip, but how do you do that? Someone up there said you must copy and click new, but how do you copy? And there is no 'new' button in my music editor. Help Please! It would be highly appreciated!

ns Oct 04 2006

To set songs as ringtones:
1. Go to whichever folder u have ur music in
2. click on Tools the select folder options
3. click on View and under hidden files and folders, uncheck hide extensions for known file types.
4. Change the file name from .mp3 to .3gp then put in on ur phone.

qstorm Oct 06 2006

DO YOU WANT A NEW SAMSUNG T809? Here is what you do. Apparently tmobile has concluded that this phone is filled with bugs and have pulled that model from the shelves and replaced it with the samsung t629. The difference is the camerac does not rotate, but who cares.
This is what you need to do. Call tech support (tmobile) and complain about a couple of these issues. MP3 player freezing. Your bluetooth staticy and disconnecting on its own. I told them I purchased 3 headsets and after buying the last one for $150 and it still didnt resolve my issue, i tried it on a razor phone and it worked fine.
There is about 15 known issues with this phone and somehow the tech revealed them to me. I didn't ask to get my phone replaced, all i said was that I noticed that the t809 doesn't exist anymore and if tmobile has finally accepted that the phone is too buggy. She didn't respond to my question and then ask me if I was looking to upgrade and I said yes. I asked if tmobile is going to have a free upgrade program to people that has purchased this phone and she said let me see what i can do for you. Because my contract was under 11months i didn't qualify to get the t629 and said she will have to transfer me to customer service. Customer service rep ask what was my biggest problem and I said getting my blue tooth to work and that I purchased 3 headsets and they were all the same results. I told her that this sparked my curiousity so I search the web to see if anyone was experiencing this issue and I found a ton of people and thats why i decided to call tech support. She then said a gentleman called in for the same issue. So from what i gather from our conversation was, if you have bluetooth issues and you mention that you tried your headset on someone elses phone and it works great, you will get a new phone (conditions apply)
If when playing mp3's you phone locks up, you get a new phone and if you can't get reception at all, your phone keeps going to voice mail when someone calls you, you get a new phone.
Conditions are - your phone must not have any cracks on the screen or plastic. All you have to pay is $9.99 for shipping. I do not have insurance on the phone, so i guess the manufacturer warranty covers this. Good luck

I have a brand new T809 (had for less than 2 weeks) that shuts off and back on when someone tries to call me. It also shuts off when I turn the volume up or down. It freezes and turns off at times when I try to play the mp3 player, AND the brand new bluetooth headset that I got with it is just a lot of static when I have it connected. Thank you all so much for letting me know that I'm NOT the only one with these problems!! I just have one question...Before I put my .3gp ringtones on it, I didn't have the problems with it shutting off and on. This is the 2nd NEW phone/bluetooth to have this issue. Do you guys experience this with the tones that you download and change the extention to .3gp before downloading them to your phone? Please advise.
