CTIA 2006 -- Sprint Nextel announced this morning that the Sprint Music Store has now reached 2 million downloads. The service launched in late October and reached one million downloads in February. But Sprint hasn't announced how many of the downloads have been paid for and how many were promotional giveaways.

Sprint charges $2.50 for each song downloaded over-the-air. That's a large premium over desktop based music download services and $.50 cents more than Verizon Wireless charges for OTA music downloads.

Last month we noted that Sprint is looking at other ideas for its music store, including a subscription model. We have also reviewed both music stores.
