Verizon Wireless today announced that it will begin to pro-rate early termination fees. Unless another carrier jumps in before this Fall, Verizon will be the first national to adopt the policy. The policy will not be retroactive to contracts signed before the change, it only applies to agreements signed after the new terms are added.
There were a few other changes:
Verizon is an honest company IMO. I had a $19.99 plan for two years after the basic plans became much higher in price. As long as I kept my phone and paid the bill I was grandfathered. They volunteered this information to me when I went shopping for a new phone.
Compare this to Corr Wireless, a company that lured me away from Verizon with the promise of $9.99 unlimited cellphone interent access on top of my phone plan, then capped usage at 5M per month AFTER the contract was in effect for a couple of months. I am going back to Verizon and I'm sorry I left them in the first place!
Too bad it only applies to new contracts... I hope this catches on with the other carriers.
