Motorola ic502 approved, dual-mode iDEN/CDMA

Jul 02 2006 - 11:16 PM ET | Motorola, Nextel

The Motorola ic502 gained FCC approval [FCC id AZ489FT7019] over the weekend. It's notable for being the first dual-mode iDEN/CDMA handset. When Sprint merged with Nextel it was made known that the Nextel iDEN network would be phased out in favor of Sprint's CDMA and that dual-mode phones would aid the transition. The phone can handle both network technologies but it can't do handoffs during a call. Design wise it fits in with most of Nextel's handsets, quite rugged in construction.

Features of the Motorola ic502 include:

  • CDMA 1900 / iDEN 800
  • Push-to-talk
  • Speakerphone
