motorola ic502Sprint Nextel has launched its first dual mode (CDMA and iDEN) handset, the Motorola ic502. We first heard of this handset when it was approved by the FCC this summer. Ever since Sprint's take over of Nextel the combined company has promised launching handsets that could span both networks as part of a master plan to shelf the aging iDEN network. Feature wise the ic502 isn't going to win any awards beyond its two network trick, but the ruggedized phone is just the first of several dual-modes to launch.

Features of the ic502 include:

  • iDEN and CDMA, including 1xRTT data
  • Speakerphone
  • Push-to-talk including Direct Talk where no network is available
  • Rugged construction, conforms to Military 810F Spec

Sprint is charging $59.99 for the Motorola ic502 after a 2-year contract and $40 rebate. It's available now.
