UTStarcom is prepping a new handset called the GPRS1228 that will rival Motorola and Samsung in the thin phone competition. The candbar style phone looks to be about the thickness of Motorola's SLVR, though its exact dimensions are not available.

The GPRS1228 has gained FCC approval, but since UTStarcom doesn't have a presence with GSM carriers in the US it's not likely to be picked up here. Because of the karaoke feature, it's likely designed to stay in Asia.
