Sony Ericsson J1003GSM 2006 -- The Sony Ericsson J100 is one of two new handsets the company announced this morning at 3GSM (see our article on the K610i, the other new handset). Unlike most Sony Ericsson handsets, the J100 is bare bones and is meant for emerging markets. The company hinted earlier that it needed to make a better play for the lower-end market and it looks like they have made good on that promise.

Features of the J100 include:

  • Dual-band GSM (850/1900 for America, 900/1800 for everyone else)
  • 96x64 pixel STN with 65K colors
  • Predictive text
  • SIM based phonebook

The Sony Ericsson J100 will ship as the J100i for Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia. The Americas will see it as the J100a. It should begin shipping in the second quarter.
