Buy the BlackBerry Pearl for just $199 from WireFly.

blackberry-pearl.jpgAs expected, T-Mobile USA has officially announced the RIM BlackBerry Pearl. Originally known in rumors as the 8100, the Pearl is the first BlackBerry to include a camera and other multimedia features.

Features of the BlackBerry Pearl include:

  • Compact size, just 4.2×1.97x .57" with a 3.1oz weight
  • EDGE high-speed data
  • 1.3 megapixel camera
  • 240×260 display
  • Media player, MP3/AAC/MPEG4/H.263
  • SureType QWERTY keyboard
  • Bluetooth 2.0
  • 64MB memory plus microSD slot

Besides multimedia features, the biggest difference with the Pearl is that it utilizes a front-facing trackball. Previous BlackBerry models have relied on a side facing scroll wheel. The BlackBerry Pearl is shipping now for $199 with a 2-year service contract.

I'm a BB 7520 user. The Pearl looks like a Treo--I tried the Treo, didn't like it and went back to my 7520.

Best feature on the 7520 is the thumb wheel. I recommend slimming down the 7520 (keep the thumb wheel), add a memory slot and kick the speed up to EVDO. Also, it would be nice if I could send print jobs from my BB (through Exchange) to my desk printer.

I'm a fan of the scroll wheel as well, but the Pearl has scored a bunch of positive reviews. Might be one of those things you need to use first.

As for looking like a Treo--the Pearl is a lot smaller. Less than half the weight and a good deal thinner (as well as shorter and skinnier, it beats the Treo in all measurements). Much easier to pocket.

I really like the nokia 8801 and the blackberry pearl. I would like to know what is the difference between purchasing the blackberry pearl or the nokia 8801?
I only use my cellphone to text message and to call.
