Samsung Trace ships on T-Mobile

samsung traceShortly after putting up a coming soon teaser, T-Mobile has started shipping the Samsung Trace t519. The Trace is the thinnest cell phone currently shipping in the US, just .3" thick (half the thickness of Motorola's RAZR).

The Trace is a close cousin to the X820, which is currently available in Europe. That handset is the subject of a controversial video that's being passed around online and has caused Samsung to issue a statement. The video shows a woman easily snap a X820 in half. Samsung says that the video was not accurate and the demo unit used was rigged and that the company may take legal action. Oddly enough YouTube removed the video stating that the copyright belonged to Motorola.

Even with the slim size, it's able to pack in a decent feature set:

  • 1.3 megapixel camera
  • Stereo Bluetooth
  • Quadband GSM plus EDGE
  • microSD card slot
  • MP3 music player
  • 176×220 pixel screen with 262k colors

T-Mobile is selling the Trace for $99 after a two-year contract and $50 mail-in rebate. It's available now.
