Motorola KRZR K1m launched by Verizon Wireless

Sep 29 2006 - 04:27 PM ET | Motorola, Verizon Wireless

Motorola KRZR K1mVerizon Wireless has become the first US carrier to launch Motorola's next-gen KRZR K1 series handset. The Motorola KRZR K1m (or in MOTOmarketing speak, the MOTOKRZR K1m) continues where the RAZR V3m left off--sleek design, more memory and dedicated music control keys. Spec wise the phones aren't too different, the design is the biggest change. Despite being after the RAZR, the KRZR is a tad chunkier--17mm opposed to 14mm.

Features of the Motorola KRZR K1m include:

  • EV-DO high-speed data
  • 64MB memory plus microSD card slot
  • 1.2 megapixel camera
  • Bluetooth
  • Size: 4.06" × 1.73" × 0.67"

WireFly is selling the KRZR K1m for $139.99 with Verizon Wireless service after a $40 rebate and 2-year service agreement. Currently the handset is only available in black, but if history is any indication it will become available in other color palettes before long. The GSM equipped KRZR K1 is expected to begin selling later in the fourth quarter from a US carrier.

I just got this and its sweet. People with razrs are jealous. Wonder when it will start coming in KRZY COLRS.

Can you have mp3 ring tones??

Nick Oct 08 2006

Does it have the same GUI as the newest RAZRs from Verizon?

I just got this phone today and love it. Fingerprints are a problem, but audio playback rocks and so does the look and feel of the phone.

To answer Derick, the phone comes with MP3 ringtones on it, but I haven't tried to load my own MP3's and use them as ringtones.

To answer Nick, it looks like it does have a similar GUI. I would say this is definitely a better looking phone, but it is thinner and feels longer. If looks are your thing, this phone is definitely for you.

What limits does Verizon put on this phone? Software changes vs. other carriers? Limits on bluetooth capabilities? or only being able to put songs on phone by purchasing thru verizon?
KRZR K1 vs. KRZR K1m ???? Should I switch carriers?

I got the phone, LOVE it but Verizon did sucker us with the music features. You have to buy their ringtones and music. With the old razr i was able to upload mp3's with a bluetooth adaptor and use them as ringtones. When I do that now, they don't show up on the phone at all. You can upload midi files using bluetooth but it puts them in a 'sound' folder and you can't do much with them. Only send them to other people. You can't set it as a ringtone or anything. I hope someone figures out how to get around all this.

I recently have purchased this phone due to the many new improved features. Wow, this phone is great. I do like the call quality and the music playback is fantastic. Fingerprints are noticable, but not to a painstaking extent. Overall, I would highly recommend this phone.

I'm not sure if you answered this already but i just got this phone (KRZR K1m) tonight and it seems cool, except the part where i download 3 songs off of V Cast music and go to set them as my ringtones and i cant do it. Is it a bug, is there a way i can do it or am i fighting a useless battle? if anyone could let me know it would be greatly appreciated, thank you!
