Sony Ericsson W200 announced

sony ericsson w200aCES 2007 -- The Sony Ericsson W200 is a new Walkman branded music phone that is aimed at the entry-level user. The MSRP sits at a low $179.99 and Sony Ericsson expects carriers to sell the device for under $50. The W200 picks up where the popular W300i left off in terms of features but adds a few twists besides a candy bar form factor.

Features of the W200 include:

  • Walkman media player 1.0, support for MP3 and AAC music
  • 128MB Memory Stick Micro M2 card included, expandable to 1GB
  • 128×160 pixel screen with 65k colors
  • VGA camera
  • GSM 900/1800/1900 (W200i) and a version for America with GSM 850 instead of 900 (W200a)

The Sony Ericsson W200 will ship in selected markets starting in the second quarter. While it was not announced, Cingular is the likely target for this handset in the US due to their existing relationship. It will come in two color schemes, rhythm black and pulse white.
