Samsung is planning on shipping the SGH-i300 to the UK next month as an exclusive to the carrier O2. The i300 looks to be the strongest competitor to Nokia's upcoming N91. Features of teh i300 include:
The i300 will cost £80 with a service agreement and will be available in October. While the phone is approved by the FCC, we haven't heard any talk about it making it to the US.
Wow this is a neat phone, not a bad price either. I wonder what the importers online will be selling it for. Does this thing have a headphone jack?
I hadn't heard about this phone, but it looks really slick. I wonder how big it is, because that N91 you mentioned looks pretty big from the photos I found.
Where can I buy it?
Rico: The Samsung does win on size, but the N91 has a lot more features. That being said, I have played with the N91 and was not too impressed--the buttons were difficult to press and overall the thing is a bit too brick-like. It was obviously a pre-production unit, so the buttons could still be tweaked.
I have an iPod nano, so I know it's possible to get 4GB of flash memory in a VERY small device cheaply. Let's see this in a phone and have a real music phone!
Hey Jon, Good point about the 4GB flash memory in the iPod nano. I think this cool device will have a lot of phone manufacturers re-thinking future designs. Forget the ROKR, how about a nano phone design (maybe a little bigger than the ipod nano) The whole mobile space is getting even more interesting is'nt it?
Tony:
Ever since I got my nano that's all I have been thinking about... I think someone could make a really killer music phone and sell it at a pretty reasonable price. The nano is priced at $249, but it includes a screen/battery which wouldn't have to be accounted for if it was being added to a phone. I would think the memory costs between $125-150, which would work for a carrier sold phone.
If you put up the nano and the RAZR, they are still about the thickness of the ROKR E1. With just a rubber band you can have something with 4x the memory and twice the battery life (since the nano would have its own power).
This was long winded, but basically I think there is the technology out there now to make a killer music phone. I'm not scared of convergence, I just want to see it done right!

haha
I think it is stupid (sorry, i'm too upset to think of a better word) that this phone needs to be exclusive only to the UK. Why?
Also, if this was available in the US, i would purchase it over the N91 just for spite, because Nokia can't keep thier words on the release date!
Auction for a BRAND NEW Samsung sgh-i300. Hurry before it ends!
Man, now that would be cool to have hear. Makes the ROKR thing look silly! Though flash memory would be nice... Less of a battery drain.
